Education and Degrees
I received my B.S. and M.S. in Education from Indiana University and hold an active secondary school teaching license. I have teacher certification in English, speech communication, theatre, radio-TV and film production, mass communications, and ESOL instruction.
Professional Experience
I have worked in education my entire professional career: I was a college professor for 23 years and a high school instructor for 12 years. After I retired from classroom teaching, I worked as an educational consultant.
College Teaching
As a full professor at College of Lake County, Grayslake, IL, I taught film, speech communication, humanities, and theatre courses, and directed the college's theatre program for 23 years. I retired from College of Lake County in 2008 and hold the title of Professor Emeritus and continued to teach courses at CLC until 2012 when I started Chicagoland Tutor.
High School Teaching
Prior to my tenure as a college professor , I taught high school English, speech, debate, theater, mass communications, and radio-television broadcasting for 12 years at Blackford High School in Hartford City, Indiana.
I have received several academic honors including Teacher of the Year and the Indiana Mayor's Award for my dedication to the arts.
I was also head coach of the speech and debate and served on the Executive Board of the Indiana High School Forensics Association and the Indiana Arts Council.
I also served on our high school's National Honor Society selection committee. My background allows me to help students meet the NHS benchmark and compose effective application letters to their school's selection committee.
ESOL Certified
I am certified instructor and can assist English as a second language students with grammar, writing, basic speaking, pronunciation, and accent reduction. I can also prepare students for the TOEFL and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Exam.
Theatre, Television, and Film Production
In addition to teaching, I have worked professionally in theater, film, and radio-TV productions.
Currently, I perform market research for the film industry and present film lectures throughout Lake and Cook Counties.
Grade Levels and Additional Disciplines
I work with elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adult students. I only tutor subjects in which I am qualified and experienced. If you need a math and science tutor, I can refer other teachers.
