Across the Curriculum
The advantages of improving the student's academic writing and reading comprehension skills extend beyond English classes to many other subject areas as a student's reading and writing proficiency often determines his or her general learning ability.
Language Arts
I assist students in all areas of English and language arts, including writing, reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, literature, and spelling. I prepare customized lesson plans to supplement the student's language arts course curriculum and also provide workbooks and study materials that correlate to current state standards. My goal is to insure students perform above grade level and remain motivated.
The French scientist Louis Pasteur once said, “Chance favors the prepared mind.” I thoroughly prepare students for all academic challenges.
Standardized Test Strategies
By using actual practice exams and preparation materials such as the highly-rated Barron's©, Kaplan© and Princeton Review©, I teach students specific testing principles and strategies guaranteed to raise composite scores on all standardized tests.
ACT - PSAT/SAT English, Reading, and Writing
I have extensive experience working with students who need assistance with grammar, composition, reading comprehension, and preparation for the English, critical reading and writing portions of the PSAT, SAT and ACT exams.*
Honors and Advanced Placement English
I also specialize in the demands of honors, accelerated, and College Board Advanced Placement English* courses.
English as a Second Language
I work with all age groups in need of ESL instruction. I help with all levels ESL - EFL conversational English, vocabulary development, reading, writing, and accent reduction. I also prepares students for the TOEFL Exam* and the U.S. Citizenship Test.
Practical Speech Therapy
I also work with children and adults to improve pronunciation and articulation and reduce common speech problems.
College Entrance Essay Writing
Throughout my teaching career, I have worked closely with college admissions directors and have a unique understanding what college entrance essays stand out. I help students create successful college admission application essays and specialize in the construction of the Common App essay, scholarship, and honors college essays.
Praxis English, Reading, and Writing
The Praxis* is an American teacher certification exam written and administered by the Educational Testing Service. Various Praxis tests are usually required before, during, and after teacher training courses in the U.S. In many states, the Praxis test is required in order to obtain a teaching license. I can effectively prepare the student for the reading, writing, and English sections of this exam.
Speaking with Confidence
I provide the tools needed to speak publicly and communicate professionally. I guarantee my students will overcome fear of speaking and become confident, spontaneous, dynamic, and persuasive public speakers.
MCAT CARS Exam
I can provide an introduction to the MCAT's Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section of the MCAT test, and sharpen your ability to evaluate information and form logical conclusions. I will help prepare you to analyze and draw out meaning from reading passages on a wide variety of topics.
